Studying your GCSE
Economics is the study of how we, as a society, manage all the different aspects of the production, distribution and consumption of goods and services.
During this GCSE course, you will gain an understanding of how markets and economies work whilst developing vital critical thinking and analytical skills. You will also gain a solid grasp of economic issues such as inflation and budget deficit.
Your Economics GCSE will teach you how global markets work, the impact of financial markets and how external factors can impact on growth, interest rates and inflation.
Each unit will challenge you to understand all the different factors that build national and global economies and the destabilising elements that can bring it all crashing down.
In addition to all your course material, this bundle includes the two exam papers you’ll need to gain your GCSE Economics.
These exams will draw from the entire course and be a mix of multiple-choice, calculation, short and extended response questions.
After your course, you will understand how competitive markets work, market failures, the impact of government policy and much more.
Getting Started
Studying GCSEs with learndirect is a unique experience. Because all of our courses are 100% online, you are 100% in control of your learning.
No teachers or classrooms. No timetables or textbooks. Everything you need to achieve your qualification can be found on our student portal.
We believe this is the best way for distance learners to get the most out of their studies.
You can balance your studies and your existing commitments instead of having to give up an evening a week to attend a class. We don’t believe that’s a positive way to learn.
Once you are signed up to the course, you can start learning straight away, no waiting for ‘term time’. The only specific deadline to work towards is your exam – exam sittings are held once per year in May or June.
You will also be assigned a dedicated tutor to help you throughout your studying. They will mark your assignments, prove guidance and give feedback. They are available to help you if you get stuck or need support with your studies.
Pursuing your career
A GCSE in Economics allows you to go on to study either at A-level, complete an RQF or an Access to HE Diploma. All of which can allow you to go on to study Economics or a Business related degree at university.

During your studies you will cover the following modules:
- Introduction to Business & Economics
- Economic foundations
- Resource allocation
- How prices are determined
- Production, costs, revenue and profit
- Competitive and concentrated markets
- Market failure
- Introduction to the national economy
- Government objectives
- How the government manages the economy
- International trade and the global economy
- The role of money and financial markets
Great news! There are no entry requirements for the course. You will need access to a computer or tablet and an internet connection.
*You will have access to the course for 12 months only. You can purchase course extensions here.

At the end of each unit you will find a Tutor Marked Assignment (TMA). This is completed online and submitted to your tutor. Once assessed your tutor will return your work complete with its final grade and feedback. Once you’ve successfully passed each assignment you’ll be ready to take your exam!
All instalment plans must be paid and up to date before an exam can be booked. In addition, exams cannot be booked for dates before the final payment is successfully made. For example, if two monthly payments are due in the future, an exam can be booked, but the exam date will be after the final payment is received.

Tutors and Exams have examination centres located around the country: Bolton, Coventry, Doncaster, St Neots Cambridgeshire, High Wycombe, Taunton, Wimbledon and Belfast. All are approved for examination delivery by the Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ).
